Bacterial and Archaeal Species Assignments using 40 universal single copy marker genes:

This webserver automatically extracts the 40 universal single copy marker genes (MGs)(Ciccrelli et al., Science, 2006; Sorek et al., Science, 2007) from a given genome and performs distance calculations to a database of MGs from ca. 3500 genomes. The genome is assigned to a species by if its MGs are on average more than 96.5% identical to all genomes assigned to a species. Please note that while most species in the database are represented by exactly one cluster, this is not the case for a small fraction.
